2022 Soup and Song Holidays Around the World

November 28th

 6 – 8 pm

Location: McKinney Center

Kick off the holidays season on November 28th as the McKinney Center brings back their popular “Holiday Soup and Song Sing-Along” featuring the Jonesborough Novelty Band and the cast of StoryTown Radio Show. We are excited to bring back this popular event as an in-person, sit-down dinner.

This holiday fundraiser features beautifully decorated tables representing different winter holidays from around the world, including Christmas, St. Niklaus Day, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Celtic Winter Solstice, and Las Posadas. We are grateful to our community partners who will be decorating our tables, including Umoja of Johnson City, the cast of StoryTown, and the Tri-Cities African Women’s Support Network among others.

Doors will open at 5:45 PM. Once the auditorium opens, you’ll find a seat at your favorite table and then enjoy an all-you-can-eat soup bar, served with Caesar salad, bread, and a giant chocolate chip cookie for dessert.

This year, the soup offerings represent different holidays as well. Enjoy a Chicken Tortilla Soup from Main Street Café, a Matzo Ball Soup from Catherine Yael Serota, a traditional Kwanzaa-inspired soup by the Tri-Cities African Women’s Support Network, and a down-home Christmas-inspired selection from Ben Putland.

After dinner, you’ll sing along with the Jonesborough Novelty Band and the cast of the StoryTown Radio Show with help from your complimentary song book. The cast will also share stories and legends about some of our most beloved Christmas Carols.

Along with singing your favorite carols, Umoja of Johnson City will be here to teach a couple of traditional Kwanzaa songs, while Catherine Yael Serota will lead us in singing her favorite Chanukah Songs.

To remember the occasions, you’ll also take home your own one-of-a-kind, hand-made ceramic ornament, created right here at the McKinney Center. Choose your favorite from among more than 150 of these unique, beautiful creations.

The event begins at 6PM, with dinner served between 6-7PM. The sing-along begins after dinner around 7PM until around 8PM. Seating for this event is strictly limited to 125 tickets.

This event serves as a fundraiser which supports this year’s community play, “We Did It Together” and the McKinney Center Scholarship Program. Tickets are only $30 and available online at www.jonesborough.com/tickets or by calling the Historic Visitors Center at 423-753-1010.
