The Town of Jonesborough is proud to partnerwith Johnson City and Washington County Schools on their second annual Dr.Martin Luther King, Jr Day of ServiceExhibition.  The theme for this year’sregional celebration is, The Beloved Community:  Persevering in Love.   “The McKinney Center is a perfect place forsuch an event,” states McKinney Center Director, Theresa Hammons. “Thisbuilding was built and opened in 1940 as the Booker T. Washington School andserved African American students K-8th grade.  It was a building that divided ourcommunity’s children and now it is a safe space to bring everyonetogether.  We couldn’t be prouder to hostthis exhibition.”

The regional MLK Day of ServiceCommittee chose the theme, The Beloved Community:  Persevering in Love, in hopes that thestudents will create and express in their or own or group art, what it means tobe part of a beloved community.  Studentsshould think about individuals or local organizations that are examples of aBeloved Community, how are they engaged in the community and what impacts dothey have on the community.
