SUMMARY:Halloween Haunts & Happenings Juried Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Jonesborough’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts at the McKinney Center has curated its Halloween Haunts and Happenings exhibition\, highlighting artwork by thirty-two regional artists that is meant to give you the creeps! Brought together by the McKinney Center staff\, this group of artists from across the region spans a range of practices\, including woodwork\, sculpture\, painting\, photography\, digital media\, and more. Their interpretive expressions reflect the mood of the season. \nArtists in the exhibition include: Amythyst Willis\, Anna Koetter\, Annabelle Trivette\, Becca Burns\, Brooke Roberts\, Caitlin Lovin\, Carol Ann Henderson\, Christopher Paul\, Dan Skalicky\, Danielle Byington\, Dawn Fernandez\, Derek Murrell\, Emily Cooper\, Haley Hansen\, Jarrod Stone\, Jean G’Fellers\, Jessica Villier\, Jimmy Arbaugh\, Jodi French-Burr\, John McKitrick\, Joyce Cirarello\, Kara Bledsoe\, Leanne Trivett\, Leigh Bowman\, Martha Blaser\, Meghan Ortiz\, Michelle O’Patrick-Ollis\, Ryan Rushour\, Skye Lee\, Skye McFarland\, Stephanie Grindstaff\, Summer Buchanan\, and Wayne Lawrence. \nThe exhibition is just one highlight of Jonesborough’s range of Halloween fun\, including the Halloween Trivia at the McKinney Center on October 24\, from 6 to 8 p.m.\, StoryTown Radio Show at the McKinney Center on October 27\, 7 p.m.\, the downtown Halloween Haunts and Happenings event on October 31\, from 6 to 9 p.m.\, and Brews and Boos on October 25. Halloween is a special time in Tennessee’s Oldest Town\, and the McKinney Center is excited to include this dark art exhibition with curiosities\, the macabre\, and the grotesque. \nThe Halloween Haunts and Happenings Exhibition will be on view at the McKinney Center from Friday\, October 17\, 2025\, through November 1\, 2025. \nThe reception for the exhibition will be held on Friday\, October 17\, from 5 to 7 p.m. The artists will be on hand at the exhibition opening to answer questions from guests. The reception will include light refreshments. SUMMARY:A Spot on the Hill
DESCRIPTION:This October\, the McKinney Center is proud to present the 11th year of A Spot on the Hill\, the original\, research-based play all about the inhabitants of the Old Jonesborough Cemetery. Created by Anne G’Fellers-Mason\, this edition of Jonesborough’s cemetery play features new characters. Stories include Dr. Matthew Mahoney\, one of the founders of the Herald & Tribune newspaper\, Mrs. Elizabeth C. Johnson\, a descendant of John Sevier\, and Mr. Henry Shade whose work with the Southern Railway did not go as planned. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to sit on. Seats are not provided at the cemetery. Come and listen to real stories of real lives among real tombstones. Performances for A Spot on the Hill will take place at 6:30 p.m. on October 10th\, 11th\, 17th\, and 18th. There will be a 2:00 p.m. matinee performance on October 11th at the McKinney Center (103 Franklin Avenue) and a 2:00 pm matinee in the cemetery on October 18th. At the outdoor matinee\, there will be ASL interpretation provided by BridgesEAST. The indoor performance on October 11th is ADA accessible. Tickets are limited\, and sell out fast\, so make sure you buy yours today. Tickets are $10.00. \n \nAudience members should arrive 15 minutes prior to show time. Parking is available at the First Baptist Church and downtown. It is a short walk up East Main Street to the cemetery from the First Baptist Church lot. A golf cart courtesy shuttle will be available for guests who need it. This program is not suggested for children less than 10 years of age.
