Soups and Songs Fundraiser
December 2 @ 1:00 pm - 10:00 pm$25
This annual event to kick-off the holiday season provides guests with dinner, a show, and a one-of-a-kind, handmade ceramic bowl of their choice, all while helping a worthwhile cause, as this event also serves as a McKinney Center annual fundraiser.
The evening features the Jonesborough Yarn Exchange Radio Show cast and the Jonesborough Novelty Band in their annual Christmas Caroling Sing-Along. The audience and cast sing together a collection of favorite Christmas Songs that are sprinkled lightly with holiday memories and stories. All who attend will receive a song book so they may sing along to every holiday tune, including classic standards such as White Christmas, Do You Hear What I Hear and so many more holiday favorites. The Yarn Exchange cast will shed light on how some of these songs came to be, while Terry Countermine and the Novelty Band take audiences on a sentimental musical journey.
Before this journey begins, guests will enter the front doors to a dazzling display of one hundred and fifty one-of-a-kind handmade ceramic bowls, all created by more than a dozen different local potters. Bowls are also made by community volunteers during several “community bowl-making days” held at the McKinney Center.
These beautiful bowls, which will be on display prior to the show, are an art exhibit of their own. From hand-built to wheel thrown, and every color glaze imaginable, there is a style and color to fit everyone’s home. Once audience members walk through the display and choose their favorite bowl, they’ll be served delicious appetizers. They will then move on to where the real fun begins.
Guests will continue into the banquet hall to encounter an all-you-can-eat home-made soup buffet. Half a dozen different soups will be available, including gluten-free and vegetarian, all prepared by local gourmet cooks, and an assortment of breads and crackers. Main Street Café also provides one of their most popular soups. Guests may try one or all of the different flavors. Also on the menu will be a fresh green salad with vegetables. Dessert consists of a variety of cookies and brownies.
The sing-along will begin after dinner, From the stories to the bowls to the music to the food, this entire event is locally made. The warm, family atmosphere suggests that the Christmas Season has indeed begun.
Tickets are only $25, and will support The Jonesborough Yarn Exchange Radio Show and the McKinney Center, through which the Yarn Exchange is run.
